– New Carthage Version of Men Like Us –

Scene setting: Zlatan co-operated with Alexandru and Ulfarr, Savaric, and the knights to orchestrate a funerary service for Osric to surprise the shattered Duke Leodulf.

A wooden stake, sharpened on both ends, is planted into Osric’s body from the neck, sticking upwards. His head is then planted on the other end and secured on. Osric’s mouth is tied shut so it doesn’t dangle about. He is pinned in a glorious stance, threateningly pointing his sword outwards, leading a charge or signaling victory.

All the soldiers, at once, bash their weapons once creating a massive thunderous clang of metals.

In one voice, the men say the first line somewhat quietly, but as a group their voices resonate, carrying. That line is “men like us.” Alexandru, with the voice of an angel, says the intervening lines between the “men like us” chant, as the men uttering the chant do so with increasing bitterness and anger. Men like us will eventually be shouted loudly by all of them – shaking the surrounding stones, and in certain parts of the song, they shout through their teeth in frustration.

The name of the funerary Service is “Requiem for the Brave,” announced by Zlatan, who invented the symphony.

The gathered knights bash their weapons against their shields, creating a thunderous clang right before shouting each “men like us.” Alexandru’s voice is angelic compared to the gruff and shouting voices of the those yelling the chant.

Men Like Us

[ Collective bash against shields]

men like us – never – hide – under – ground,

[ Collective bash against shields]

men like us – in the fray – can be found,

[ Collective bash against shields]

men like us – continue to astound

[ Collective bash against shields]

men like us – when in pain – make no sound

[ Collective bash against shields]

men like us – in battle plan to fall –

[A pause of silence instead of the bashing shields to signify the men have fallen]

it easy to be brave  behind a castle wall

[Zlatan looks at Solon and Ambassador Sas, who enjoy safety while deciding life and death for others]

[Louder bash than usual and the knight’s voices are coarse, pained, and they shout through their teeth]

men like us – our bravery is a curse

[Same louder bash as earlier]

men like us – will always die first

[Same louder bash as earlier]

men like us – could take an arrow to the chest

[Softer bash, as it was at the start]

men like us – our faith put to the test

[ Collective bash against shields]

men like us – let the hea – vens cry

[ Slightly weaker bash against shields]

men like us – should – not – be – allowed to die

[A powerful bash that shakes the very stones in the surrounding structures, and this “men like us” is the also the loudest so far]

men like us – continue to stay pure

[Loudest bash so far]

men like us – [Alexandru slowly this time] our bravery knows no….cuuuure…. [end and everything is swallowed by a terrible silence, occasionally broken by gasps, sniffles, and sighs of a mourning crowd]

– DA Krasburg Version of  Our Emperor Has Lost His Mind –

The once mighty Holy Roman Empire has become a travesty, once basking in glory during its golden age, now cowering in the dark shadow of incompetent leadership. The emperor has just declared the 2nd crusade on the holy city far away, across the sea, in the desert. The torture executioner sings his opinion on this…

Our Emperor Has Lost His Mind

What have the noble-MEN done?

all our coin suddenly gone

everything we work and grow goes to feed only the one!

there’s no more work to be found

children screaming far too loud

even tried to steal some food but they just unleashed the hound!

haven’t eaten in a week

tax-man took my only sheep

who even recalls the last time we got some sleep?

yesterday i sold the axe

even the melted candle wax

what else can i do to – pay – their – tax?

emperor’s asking for our hand

to attack the pagan land

let their savage blood – spill – on – the – sand!

to eradicate their kind

no matter where they all hide

when all i want – is – some – ale to find

emperor’s asking for our hand

to attack the pagan land

let their savage blood – spill – on – the – sand!

to eradicate their kind

no matter where they all hide

when all i want – is – some – ale to find

history’s not worth a thing

noblemen to power cling

shame that a dagger in the dark is – all – they – swing!

every knight ordered to ride

in the end they all just died

it seems that our empeROR – has – lost – his – mind – HAY!

emperor’s asking for our hand

to attack the pagan land

let their savage blood – spill – on – the – sand!

to eradicate their kind

no matter where they all hide

when all i want – is – some – ale to find

every knight ordered to ride

in the end they all just died

it seems that our empeROR – has – lost – his – mind – HAY!

What have the noble-MEN done?

all our coin suddenly gone

everything we work and grow goes to feed only the one!

every knight ordered to ride

in the end they all just died

it seems that our empeROR – has – lost – his – mind – HAY!

every knight ordered to ride

in the end they all just died

it seems that our empeROR – has – lost – his – mind – HAY!

please god let the sun come out

make the fruits get big and stout

let announcing a great harvest be my – batTLE – shout!

those are not but worthy dreams

there’s no hope for us it seems

so long as the emperor our – moNEY – keeps!

moneylender at my door

my daughter is now his whore

god i hope my son’s maaaade – it a – shore!

hope that he brings back the gold

in the young out with the old

so my only daughter can stop sleeping in the cold!

but i know those fantasies

wise-woman future she sees

no – brave – son – shall retTURN – from – oooo – ver – seas!

emperor’s asking for our hand

to attack the pagan land

let their savage blood – spill – on – the – sand!

to eradicate their kind

no matter where they all hide

when all i want – is – some – ale to find

every knight ordered to ride
